How old can you be before it's too late to get circumcised???

Ok so i gave birth to a baby boy a month and 14 days ago and i couldnt get him circumcised at the time because he was sick and they had to put him in the special baby's room. and it completely slipped our mind to tell the doctor's to do it once he was better. now that we brought him home we've tried to look for doctor's online but none of the websites say how old you can be before it's too late. . . so can anyone tell me how old can you be before it's too late to get circumcised??

You can get circumcised at any age. For that reason, its a GREAT idea to let him choose for himself when he is an adult. An intact baby boy is actually alot less work to care for than a circumcised one. The foreskin doesn't retract until alot later in childhood so you just wash the outside of the penis and leave it alone. There aren't any medical benefits to the procedure that good hygenie and a condom can't prevent. Its actually alot more difficult for a woman to clean her vulva and labia than it is for a boy to clean under his foreskin. Additionally, the foreskin contains thousands of nerves- recent studies have shown that the most sensitive part of the penis is ON the foreskin. In circumcised men, the most sensitive part of thier penis is often thier SCAR. No medical organization reccomends circumcision for infant boys, and most pediatricians don't use any sort of anesthetic for the procedure. When they do use anesthetic it is often inadequate. After that, baby boys get nothing to help with the pain while it heals. Can you imagine being in diapers with an open wound on your genitals? Baby boys who have been cut also show greater pain response at thier 6 months shots, so it DOES hurt. The united states is the ONLY 1st world country that still routinely cuts its boys, and the circ rate is falling even in the US. Its now about 50/50 nationwide, lower in some parts. Finally, a recent study indicated that circumcised boys have an increased risk of MRSA infection. They are 12% more likely to get it than thier uncircumcised peers. That means 12 out of 100 boys are at risk to contract MRSA through thier circumcision wounds. Your boy doesn't stand a 12% chance of needing a circumcision later in life- all the things circ "prevents" have MUCH lower statistics. As a preemie, your son is alreadyat risk for MRSA, don't add to it. Its HIS body, HIS penis and HE should get to choose if he wants his foreskin when he is full grown. -Neb

How old can you be before it's too late to get circumcised???musicals opera theaterI understand why you would consider waiting, but please also consider that the reason people have this done when they are babies is becuase as an adult, it is very painful and takes longer to recover. A baby will recover quickly and will never remember the pain. Report It

Glad to hear it. Congrats, by the way, on your new baby boy! :) -Neb Report It

Ignore Gummybear. It is more painful for an infant, they just can't express it in words, so people think it is alright to amputate their foreskins. Just because someone "won't remember it" does not make it right. Anymore than rohypnol (sp?) makes date rape ok because they "won't remember it.". Report It

It's never actually too late. I used to work in an assisted living home with a resident who was circumcised while in his 70's because he was having trouble retracting the foreskin.
Call the same hospital you gave birth at and ask them up in the nursery what ages. Or you could call his pedi.I am glad your son is better. Good Luck.
It's not to late to get it done, most of the time his pediatrician can do it in his office, even grown men can get circumcised.
You can do it anytime, there are men who do this as adults. You just have to talk to your Doctor about setting it up.
It is never too late to get it done if that is what you reallywant but do some research first because they cannot have anesthetic until they are 1 so seeing as you have waited a little can you wait that extra bit longer?
you can do it anytime.
It is never to late to get them circumcised... although I would advise to get it done as soon as possible... when I was going through LVN school I was doing part of my internship at different part of the hopsital and I saw a 15 yr old boy whos parents had waited to let him decide what he wanted to do and that boy was in a lot of pain so I would definitely do it soon if you would like him circumcised. Talk to your ped and he/she can tell you how to go about getting it done.
our pediatrician said he didn't feel comfortable doing them after they were 2 weeks old...? Whether that was his personal preference as a doc or if there was reason to it I'm not entirely sure... but that is what I heard. And also heard that if it is medically necessary than they will do it no matter how old they are..
It is never too late to perform a circumcision, as far as I know. People do it mainly because of hygienic reasons or their religion specifies it. All you need to do is call your child's

pediatrician (or possibly your OB) and have a time set up when your baby is well and feeling okay. It's probably better to do it as an infant, if you are definitely going to have it done. The older the boy gets, the harder it is on them because they feel more pain. And yes, even men that are having trouble sometimes have it done, but the procedure is way more painful as an adult than as a baby.
Why don't you let HIM decide if he wants the end of his penis cut off. Meanwhile, here is some more information:

As someone who was circumcised in his late teens, I can assure it's never too late to do it. Also, it's not true that they can't use anesthesia until he's 1, they just can't use general anesthesia until around then. However, whoever does it should ABSOLUTELY use a local anesthetic (they often use what's called a penile dorsal nerve block). And for what it's worth having spent almost 20 years with a foreskin, your baby will be much better off if get it done ASAP. The less he remembers the better and he will enjoy his little fella a lot more down the road.
Its actually easier to take care if it if you leave it alone. You don't have to pull the foreskin back (and shouldn't). You just wipe and go! Very easy, very clean.

Circumcision is very, very painful (like ripping off your toenail...) and they don't use any pain meds for babies. The longer you wait, the more likely they are to use pain meds -so if you feel that you MUST do it, wait.

If you do it, he will come back raw and bloody. Imagine peeing and pooping on an open sore. Yuck.

Just leave that sweet babe the way god made him.
Let your baby decide decide when he's grown up! Most of the world's men have their foreskin intact. The trend is finally losing it's grip in the United States as well. In the western states, the circ rate has slipped to only 30%. Yeah, mamas!
It's never too late for a boy to be circumcised, and your son is still very young so I can't imagine there being any problem in getting it done. You should ask your pediatrician, I'm sure he or she could recommend a good doctor or maybe even do it him or herself. By the way, I support your decision and think it's very good thing that you are following through on this and getting your son circumcised. It is for the best and he will likely thank you for it when he grows up.
