Im 27, passionatly desiring to dance. Is it too late? very unflexible & intimidated but WILLING.

Ive never danced before other than at the club. Ive been living with this incredible desire to dance for the longest time but had to bury my dreams due to circumstances. I am now at a place where I would like to focus on this goal and dream. Is it doable to start this late? My legs only open 90 degrees. How long do you think it will take for me to get my legs to open? How long should I expect for a normal learner like myself to advance forward into jazz and hiphop and become good enough to perform at an amateur level? Is this achievable? My dream is to later on work with orphans and trafficked girls in SE Asia to bring healing through the arts. If anyone knows a good adult ballet class in the LA area, please please kindly advise. Any other insight or any kind of knowledge you have on starting to learn how to dance... i will greatly appreciate you sharing ~ Thank you!!!

You can probably get more turnout than 90 degrees, but I wouldn't expect to get to 180. But there are more important things than turnout. If you want to dance, then dance. See if any of the local colleges have ballet classes; that's where I usually take mine.

Just remember that you are not a six-year-old in Imperial Russia training for the Bolshoi or the Kirov. Listen to your body. You want to dance, not cripple yourself for the rest of your life.

Yes u can start dancing at 27. As u dance over time u will get more flexible. Work hard u'll get there!!!
i think u too old. but if u really want 2 dance u'll ignore me and do wat makes u happy.

i wish u luck in w/e u wanna do
It's never too late. As long as you are willing to make sacrifices, and have the ambition. You'll be fine. Try not to loose your drive. Be surrounded by things that motivate you.
You certainly can't unless you try to.

Flexibility comes with moving.

The more you move, the more you can.

The less you move, the stiffer you get.

Then you injure yourself, and move less.

Eventually you get tired of not being able do even live without pain, and you get off your tail and start to move again.

If you are really stiff, start out with simply walking for about an hour a day.

You will eventually, suddenly notice that you feel better.

Then you think of being able to do more and more.

Stretch your 'wings' a little at a time and you'll feel like flying.

I'm over 50, and in better shape than I've been for 15 years.
